KEY PERSONNEL

Kathryn Burns
CEO

Kathryn provides creative, strategic direction and leadership to the Beacon Academy Trust; developing the vision, values and key aims for the MAT with Trustees and Leaders. She balances her time between BMAT central activity and working closely with the Trust Executive securing improvement across the MAT. Through the identification of key priorities and school improvement strategies she champions collaboration to realise the BMAT vision and values; working towards the agreed goals by constantly reviewing and evaluating progress, value for money and student impact to refresh the vision. Kathryn has a wide-ranging background that includes school and corporate leadership, advisory and consultancy work locally and nationally. Most recently founding BMAT leading on establishing its’ constitution, incorporating the teaching alliance, SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) and Beacon Business Innovation Hub Free School; whilst building the central services infrastructure to support the BMAT schools and create the capacity to consolidate and grow outstanding BMAT practice to improve student progress and outcomes.

Deep Bamrah
Finance Director

Deep joined Trust in June 2017 as the Finance Director. His key responsibilities include the strategic financial management and the long term financial viability of the Trust.  Deep works very closely with the CEO and the Trust Executives, advising on financial matters and key strategic matters.

Deep trained and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA CGMA) and has worked across a range of businesses and sectors. These include health care, global logistics, asset management, online travel and public relations. He has had the opportunity to experience a wide range of commercial challenges ranging from business start-ups, mergers and takeovers.

Phil Bray
Principal – NELTA

Phil takes a lead on all of the activities of the teaching school alliance including our leadership programmes, school to school support and initial teacher training provision. NELTA is an Ofsted outstanding (2017) accredited teacher training provider of School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and we also work with UCL and King’s college on some of our teacher training programmes. Phil co-ordinates a range of professional development training programmes and leads the provision of subject networks and school to school support activities across a large alliance of schools within and beyond Redbridge. As NELTA Principal Phil also leads on the DfE International Teacher Recruitment programme, sourcing internationally trained Maths and Physics teachers for the East of England and North East London.

Térèse Wilmot
Principal – Beal High School

As the Principal of Beal High School, Térèse leads colleagues, parents and carers to ensure that our students benefit from extraordinary opportunities to learn and thrive as members of the campus and local communities. Beal is a positive learning environment where young people can aspire, be challenged and excel in an atmosphere of safety and purpose. Térèse places teaching and learning firmly at the centre of sustained school improvement. In her current role, she is building on previous leadership success: the development of outstanding teaching and learning; securing an OFSTED outstanding judgement; guiding colleagues through academy status and the development of the Trust; achieving highest ever outcomes for both attainment and progress; and leading a confident expansion to 12 forms of entry. Beal is now one of the largest schools in the UK.

Miz Mann
Principal – The Forest Academy

Following a year at BMAT supporting the Trust Executive team, Miz has now been appointed as the Principal of The Forest Academy. Miz has been teaching since 1995, and during this time she was the Headteacher of a primary school in Newham, and in September 2010 she was appointed Headteacher of Aldersbrook Primary School in Redbridge. This school was judged as ‘outstanding’ in December 2014.

Miz is looking forward to taking on the role of Principal at TFA where she will be working with the whole community in developing strong partnerships and providing support for all stakeholders to ensure a successful learning environment, which challenges, supports and inspires.

Lise Thompson
Principal – BBIH

From the start of September 2017 Lise was appointed as Principal of Beacon Business Innovation Hub.

She has, for the last 30 years worked in Redbridge, in schools presenting challenging circumstances. She has worked at The Forest Academy and has contributed to its journey from a school in special measures to a good school.

This has allowed her to develop a range of skills and gain a deeper understanding of how schools operate within the wider context of education. Her aim has always been to nurture and facilitate learning and guide children to become the best they can be.

Lise strives to ensure that students are successful whichever pathway they choose, and that the provision on offer equips them for progression and life. Beacon Business Innovation Hub needs to be synonymous with creating excellence and a supportive ethos for all.

Ouma Soobadoo
Trust Manager

The fundamental aspect of Ouma’s role is to deal with all Trust associated matters. If you need any further information regarding BMAT, please do not hesitate to contact Ouma in the first instance. She works closely with the BMAT CEO, and the Trust Executive, providing managerial, administrative and clerical support to all; in liaison with the Trust Clerk. She leads on marketing and PR for the Trust including the development of the Trust websites ensuring our compliance and that they provide clear, succinct information

In addition, she runs the calendars for the BMAT CEO, Kathryn Burns and BMAT Finance Director, Deep Bamrah. She maintains utmost confidentiality as well as remaining calm under pressure at all times.

Ingrid Tully
Trust Services Manager

As Trust Services Manager Ingrid is responsible for procurement across the Trust in line with our finance policy and the Academies Financial Handbook. She ensures the continuing availability of best value services, utilities and equipment. Ingrid monitors assesses and reviews contractual obligations for outsourced school services via a Contract Management System which ensures effective management of all the Trusts’ contracts She has the responsibility of monitoring the catering requirements across the Trust, as well as being responsible for the letting of Trust premises to external organisations. Ingrid also takes a lead on NELTA and School Direct finance administration and offers support with trainee services.

Ebrahim Vawda
Clerk to the Trust

Ebrahim as Clerk to the Trust. His role is to provide support to Trustees and Local Governing Bodies and Committees on governance, constitutional and procedural matters, in their duties to provide support and challenge to the Executive Team. The role also involves liaising with the members of the Executive Team, Chairs of Trustees and Local Governing Bodies, arranging and managing meetings, maintaining a database of membership, and ensuring vacancies are filled in line with requirements of the constitution and maintain total confidentiality.
